June 2020 News from Belle Mead Animal Hospital

Organize Pet Medications with Pill Cases

Here is some advice for Pet Parents: Any cat or dog pet parent that is giving multiple daily medications to their pet should really take a trip to Walgreens and invest in a $2.00 – $7.00 pill case.

As a veterinarian, but especially as a pet owner who had an older dog with heart disease and on multiple meds for 5 years and a cat on meds for kidney disease and hypertension, I recommend picking a weekly day like Sunday or Friday and making it – PFS or PFF or PFP day (Pre-fill Sunday or Pre-fill Friday or Pre-fill Pill case day). Whatever day suits your fancy.

Seriously, it will save you from going crazy every morning and evening opening multiple bottles and also remind you when you are getting low on pills. You would not believe how many calls we get about owners chronically forgetting if they gave meds or giving pills twice because they did not have a pill case.

Please remember to not run out of meds on a weekend or expect a medication refill in less than 48 hours. Instead of calling for a medication refill and waiting for a person, we now have a new prompt where you can leave a message, or better yet, just email your request to customerservice@bmvet.com any time of day or night. Emailing ensures quicker service and call backs or texts when medications are ready. – Dr. Joe Martins, DVM
