Jessica Stephens, DVM, wins Honorable Mention in Veterinary Practice News competition

Join us in congratulating Jessica Stephens, DVM, Belle Mead Animal Hospital, for winning Honorable Mention in the Veterinary Practice News 2015 X-Ray Contest, “They Ate What?!” sponsored by Trupanion Pet Insurance.

Dr. Stephens treated Willow, an 8 month old Australian Shepherd mix for ingesting approximately 18 buttons and nearly the entirety of a woman’s belt the day before!

The dog had been acting completely normal at home – eating, playing, and defecating. Although Willow was acting fine, two view abdominal radiographs ordered by Dr. Stephens were obtained to ensure the belt and buttons were moving through the intestines.

The x-rays clearly showed the foreign objects on their way out of Willow’s system. Dr. Stephens advised the owner to continue to feed high fiber foods and monitor for defecation of the foreign objects.

The owners were also interested in updating Willow’s vaccines that were overdue. As far as we know, as of this writing, Willow is doing well!

About the 2015 “They Ate What?!” Competition

Every year for past 10 years, Veterinary Practice News has hosted the annual “They Ate What?!” competition. Veterinarians are given the opportunity to send in their most interesting radiographs their practices have encountered for a chance to win.

Once again, congratulations Dr. Stephens!
